Each student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has a unique set of skills, challenges, interests and needs. They are each in a unique family, community and school, offering a variety of opportunities for devising interventions to meet their goals and objectives. This presentation will provide a S.W.O.T. template to identify the student's abilities and support (S), to develop meaningful goals (W), to access opportunities (O) and to create customized tactics (T). Participants will develop a template for a child of interest to them. The conference will close with a presentation by a young adult with ASD and his mother, outlining customized intervention through his lifespan.

Phyllis Kupperman, M.A., CCC-SLP, Executive Director/Founder
Phyllis Kupperman has been instrumental in the growth and philosophy of the Center for Speech and Language Disorders. She earned her B.S. and Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Illinois. She has developed tactics to support language and academic learning related to oral and written communication, reading comprehension, thinking and social skills in individuals with ASD at various levels. Phyllis is the author of a new book published by LinguiSystems, "The Source for Intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder".
Mary Moreno, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Coordinator
Mary Moreno was awarded her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Texas Woman's University where she received training working with school-aged children with articulation, language and developmental disorders. Since joining CSLD in 2005, Mary organizes special programs throughout the year. She has presented at the Autism Society of America conference in 2006 and at the Illinois Speech and Hearing Association conference in 2007.
Rebecca Rogers, M.S., CCC-SLP, Social Language Group Coordinator
Rebecca Rogers received her Bachelor's and Master's degree from Illinois State University. While in her graduate program, she gained experience working with school-aged children with articulation, language, pragmatics, voice and developmental disorders. Rebecca joined CSLD in 2007. Her responsibilities include screening, evaluating and treating children and young adults with Asperger's syndrome, ASD, hyperlexia, developmental disorders, social/pragmatic disorders and speech and language deficits.
Dr. Susan Nelson Owen and Michael Owen (mother and son team)
Michael Owen is a college student studying computer animation. He is a co-presenter with his mother at teacher training conferences on the topic of supporting students with autism in general education classrooms. Susan Nelson Owen, a physician in Internal Medicine, has been involved in the IL Autism Project as a teacher trainer since 2002. Together the Owens will present one families' experience dealing with adapting strategies and accommodations over time; recognizing growing strengths and dealing with the persistent challenges of autism.

ASHA CEU APPROVED
The Center for Speech and Language Disorders (CSLD) is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to offer continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. This conference is offered for 0.5 CEU’s (Intermediate level, Professional area). ASHA approval of CE Provider status does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.
ILLINOIS PROVIDER OF CPDU’s
CSLD is approved by the State Board of Education to offer continuing professional development activities for which teachers may receive credit under this system. This conference is offered for 5 state CPDU’s.
